Symptoms of Yeast Infections
The visible symptoms of yeast infectionvary depending on where the infection manifests itself on the body. For example, oral Candidiasis commonly known as Thrush, has symptoms that are totally unique from those found in the many types of skin infections or from vaginal yeast infection. The very serious systemic Candidiasis as well as chronic yeast syndrome have a combination of symptoms that help to identify them but many of these are shared, in a milder form, with other more common types of Candidiasis.
What are the symptoms of yeast infection?
- Vaginal yeast infection (vulvovaginal candidiasis) is the most widely known form of yeast infection in women. The symptoms can be broken down into a few basic signs.
♦Vaginal itching and soreness are the most common symptoms. This discomfort is severe and constant.
♦Vaginal burning with soreness, redness and inflammation is also commonly experienced.
♦Unusual vaginal discharge ranging from clear to white can be experienced. If it is present it may look clumpy but it rarely has a strong odor.
♦Candidiasis outbreaks irritate the vulva area which can make urination painful as urine hits the raw area.
♦On occasion painful intercourse can also result. This is usually a result of the sore and irritated vulva.
- Thrush (Oral Candidiasis) is commonly characterized by white lacy patches usually on your tongue or inner cheeks – but also sometimes symptoms of yeast infection appear on the roof of your mouth, gums, tonsils, or back of your throat. These may have a “cottage cheese” appearance and can be painful with minor bleeding when scraped brushed. If left untreated thrush can make eating and drinking difficult. This can result in poor nutrition and dehydration.
- Localized skin infections can also be caused by Candida. These typically appear in warm moist areas of the body such as the folds in the skin, the feet or, in infants, diaper areas. The fist symptom of yeast infection caused by Candida overgrowth would be a red flat rash with sharp scalloped edges. Itching and sensitivity usually accompany the rash. As it progress smaller areas of infection appear near the original rash. These are known as satellite lesions.
- Systemic candidal disease generally only occurs in patients with severally weakened immune systems. It can affect various internal organs and cause pain of dysfunction of the inflamed organ. This occurs most often in patients with HIV or advanced AIDS, cancer patients and those receiving chemotherapy. It is generally linked to an inhibited immune system.
- Chronic Yeast Infection is an overgrowth of candida albicans yeast in the intestines. This may be the hardest form of yeast infections to recognize. There are a variety of symptoms closely linked to Chronic Yeast Infection but here are the most common:
♦Gastrointestinal problems such as: bloating, gas, intestinal cramps, chronic diarrhea, constipation, or heartburn
♦Allergies (including both food and airborne)
♦Severe premenstrual syndrome
♦Chronic fatigue, especially after eating
♦Muscle Aches
♦Feeling of being drained
♦Depression
♦Irritability
♦Tendency to bruise easy
♦Lowered immunity and susceptibility to infection
♦Sexual dysfunction
♦Memory loss, severe mood swings,
♦Brain fog, difficulty concentrating and feeling mentally “disturbed”
♦Recurrent fungal infections such as “jock itch”, athlete’s foot, or ringworm and all types of skin problems
♦Extreme sensitivity to chemicals, perfumes, smoke, or other odors
♦Recurrent vaginal or urinary infections
♦Prostatitis
♦A feeling of being light headed or drunk after minimal wine, beer, or certain foods
